Benny’s Bridge wins at Cheltenham
Benny’s Bridge bridged the gap at Cheltenham
Benny’s Bridge posted an electric finish to win the £27,500 Steel Plate and Sections Handicap Hurdle (Class 2) on Festival Trials Day at Cheltenham
Making his handicap debut, the strong feeling before the race was that Benny’s Bridge would be well suited by the likely stronger gallop and his jockey Paddy Brennan was as cool as a cucumber as he settled him in last place.
Turning into the home straight Benny’s Bridge still had a great deal of ground to make up, but he gradually bridged the gap under a tight rein and was on the heels of the three leaders jumping the last. Weaving his way between horses, Benny’s Bridge soon asserted on the run in and was punched out to win by a comfortable 2¾L.
